Bear
Bear
GMU 16B is home to a healthy population of bears, each species offering its own challenges and rewards for hunters:
Black Bears: Known for their adaptability, black bears thrive in the varied habitats of GMU 16B. These bears are often found in dense forests and along coastal areas. Hunting black bears requires keen observation skills and an understanding of their habits, making it a rewarding pursuit for both novice and experienced hunters.
Brown Bears: Often referred to as Kodiak bears or grizzly bears, depending on the region, brown bears in GMU 16B are larger and more powerful. Their hunting season typically aligns with salmon runs, creating opportunities for hunters to observe their natural behavior. Successfully hunting a brown bear is a testament to skill and perseverance, given their size and strength.
Grizzly Bears: A subspecies of brown bears, grizzlies are iconic in Alaska's wilderness. They are often found in remote areas, requiring hunters to be both strategic and patient. Hunting grizzlies demands a deep respect for these magnificent animals, as well as knowledge of their behavior and habitat.
Day 1: Arrival
We pick you up from Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport
Once you land, your gear will be assessed. If anything is needed or missing, supplies can be bought in town.
We will arrange transport from Ted Stevens to Birchwood Airport where we will depart in a Cessna 185 or Super Cub plane to our destination.
Once you land, there will be a hike to the campsite that has already been set. I take a lot of time in the off season to scout and will have been to the area before you arrive to set camp and scout.
Day 2-10: The Hunt
Day will be spent navigating rugged terrain, tracking the target animal.
We sleep in, top of the line “pup” tents. Kuiu, Hilleberg, or Samsaya.
Freeze dried meals will be provided. Typically a hot breakfast and a hot dinner. Lunch consists of salami cheese and different kinds of high quality snacks..
*Any kind of dietary restriction can be accommodated.
We will “spike” out for the duration of the pursuit.
pack out
Once the trophy has been killed, we will begin processing it and packing it to transport into town
Once the trophy is earned, we will pack out the camp and the game to the nearest strip. Where we will be flown back to Birchwood.
Your trophy will be fleshed and salted and turned over to an expeditor to ship to your desired taxidermist.
